Happy February 29th!

Leap, Leap! What makes today so special. It’s leap year. Today, February 29th, is one of those days that comes only once every four years, and others, do you know?

So if today is called Leap Year, what are all the other years called?

Anyone know. Help me out.

Encyclopedia of Life

Update: It’s back up! I don’t know how long it took it, I wasn’t monitoring. But check it out.

If you thought some plant life or animals are rare, try getting to the website called The Encyclopedia of Life. If you try and get to it recently (http://www.eol.org/) you might find yourself a little frustrated. Since it’s public rollout last Tuesday, it’s been up and down. According to reports, there have been millions of hits and the server can’t handle the load.

Why the big deal about the site? It’s a site that will store the names and descriptions of all the species of life. That’s cool. Scientists have been and will continue to be the first to start the documents. Then after a while it will be opened up to the public.

Check back often, you get a glimpse of the rare site.

Multiple Calendars on Blackberry 8100

  1. Multiple Calendars don’t physically exist in the Blackberry.
  2. You can sync multiple calendars from your PC Outlook to your single calendar on the Blackberry. This can include ICAL Google Calendars that have been added/registered in your Outlook.

I have already updated to the latest Desktop Software and upgraded my OS (see the BB upgrade post). I am now interested in syncing my 5 internet folders from Google and my work Outlook calendar. I have already added my Internet Calendars (how to add ICALs in Outlook is not described here) and are registered in my Outlook account.

It is expected that this is a one-way feature, meaning I can’t add something to my Blackberry and expect it to upload all the way to the Google Calendar (ICAL) because I don’t believe the Blackberry knows the difference between the ICAL and Outlook mappings. But I am going to try changing an ICAL event on the Blackberry to see how it’s handled when syncing back to the registered ICAL in Outlook.

What is OTA for Mobile devices?

This refers to Over-the-air. When someone builds an application to install on a device, in this case, the Blackberry Pearl 8100, an installation package can be created that is for OTA (Over-the-air) installation. On your Blackberry open your web application, goto the website where the link resides, track down to the link and click the link. The installation will begin. Follow the instructions for the program installation.

Blackberry Pearl 8100 OS Upgrade

This link (http://www.t-mobile.com/bbupgrade/) will give those that own the Blackberry Pearl 8100 Smart PDA the opportunity to upgrade their operating system. I did the update last night and I’ve been happy so far with the process, which went off without a hitch, and the visible adjustments to make the already great BB experience look good, are even better.

This is an upgrade from version 4.2.0.62 to 4.2.1.107. Get the numbers from your BB at Menu | Options | About.

A few of the changes, for me at least, that impact me, will be reviewed here.
