I love Spain, it’s culture, people, and language; I have found a website that allows me to binge every once in a while … OK, a lot! And I want to let you know about it. Serving a Mission in Spain

Before I was 19, I saved up money (for a really long time) to pay for and serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When I then turned 19, I was asked by the Church, via letter from the Prophet, to leave my home and family for a period of two years in the “mission field”. 

The “mission field” is a country, city, and area designated by the Church as the area of my service. Using my savings, about $10,000 (or $300 a month to pay for an apartment, food, and all other expenses) I would travel to the country, meet with a Mission President (a man also called by the Church who oversees the missionary work in that area) and began meeting people and teaching them about my beliefs and the mission of Jesus Christ.

When church membership is small in an area of the world, the coverage may be extremely large, like Russia or other countries where the Church is new. Other areas, like South America where the Church has been growing for many years, a Mission may take up just one or two major cities of an area.

I was called by our Prophet to serve in the Spain, Seville mission (which covers the entire province of Andalucia). I served for two years in each of the following cities:

• The MTC (Missionary Training Center) in Provo, Utah (2 months)
• Cordoba (2 months)
• Granada (7 months)
• Dos Hermanas (3 months)
• Alcala de Guadaira (3 months)
• Merida (5 months)
• Marbella (2 months)
