The E Center Seating

Our latest endeavor has been to update the seating charts on The E Center website. They have turned out great and has had a tremendous impact on the visibility of The E Center and helped visitors in having a rich experience knowing where their seats are in the arena.

In recent months, the E Center of West Valley City, Utah has launched a new website using many of our photos in their gallery in addition to the introductory billboard photos cycling on each and every page. Being the Head Photographer of The Maverik Center has been a great pleasure and opportunity to provide my skills to the community and help increase visibility of great concerts and events at the venue. Photo Date Adjustment in Lightroom 2

Do you have two cameras and have forgotten to adjust one of them to match the other; you’ve consequently used them both on a single shoot and find the dates of the photos off!?

When uploading the photos into Lightroom, the pictures don’t match in the slider. It’s necessary to get them in sync. This will help you to get them adjusted. It should be a no-brainer, but sometimes the frustration of forgetting can overpower the common sense on how to make the actual adjustment.

D300 Firmware Update

UPDATE: I went to shoot the Coldplay concert at the Energy Solutions Arena tonight in Salt Lake City, Utah and I didn’t have a lick of problems. In fact, it acted like a normal camera should. I loved having too the increased number of minimum shutter speeds in the ISO Sensitivity menu option. That helped a lot, because the previous firmware minimum was 1/250 and now there is a minimum of 1/4000. Nice.

During this last week, since getting the Nikon D300, I have been having some nasty little issues with the camera and how the photos have been turning out. The 70-200 VR f2.8 lens I own has been “freezing” up and I haven’t been able to take pictures because it won’t focus. I have also found that, even compared to my Nikon D70s, I have seen some unsatisfactory photos. There’s what I consider to be excessive bluring of the photos.

Wow, the differences between the Firewire standards really have me up in arms. I’m a little disappointed with Apple for not making the Firewire 800 (1394b – 9pin) plug available on my MacBook. Because, it’s been out for a while, and the speed is amazing, up to 700 MB/sec. That’s up from the 100, 200, and 400 speeds of Firewire 400 (1394a).

I wanted to get the new Lexar Professional UDMA 300x speed Compact Flash card for my DSLR and I’m finding out a few things needed to make this all work.

First, my Nikon D70s doesn’t transfer at the 300x speed and not many new cameras do. The camera will still use the CF and at the highest rate the UDMA will allow for the cameras slot. That’s OK, I wanted to get the images downloaded off the card as fast as possible. So, I had to get all the components together that would allow the fast possible speed, yet be a complete high-speed set so when the time comes to upgrade the other devices, everything is at it’s peak.

The components required from photo shoot to post-processing are the following.

Camera to memory card to memory card reader to computer

Each of these have different transfer rates. The Camera (CF) being about 70x, the memory card reader (9 pin 1394b Firewire) is 300x, the computer (Apple Macbook 6 pin 1394a Firewire) is about 150x.

Because the Lexar camera reader has 9 pin 1394b Firewire connections and the Macbook has 6 pin 1394a Firewire connections. I am having to find an adapter that bridges this connection “disconnect”.

Hiding Module, Panels, and Filmstrip

What in the world does this mean in Adobe Lightroom!?

The Five Rules

In Adobe’s Lightroom, there is a work environment that help make working on photos much easier. Sometimes, and all too often, do the toolbars or panels get in the way of working on photos. Well, adobe put together The Five Rules to help you understand the the environment better. I won’t go into those here because they’ve done a great job on their own. I will tell you though how to get to the tutorial in Lightroom, and then I’ll explain some Key Commands that they don’t cover. Continue reading

Glenn Beck Christmas Special

The E Center – Glenn Beck Christmas Special – Saturday, December 8, 2007

I wasn’t able to stay for the whole event, but I let two of my friends attend. While I was there, it was a great experience. Glenn Beck is a talk show host who is a recent convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (within the last 3 years I think).

He started off telling some stories and events of his life how they correlated to Christmas and provided a wonderful warm event for people to enjoy a night out.
